Security Technician

Starting Salary: $39,533

The purpose of this classification is to provide security to and control of key access points at the courthouse and other facilities and to monitor and control inmate movement through the County detention facility.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides security in the jail and courthouse; observes and screens all persons entering the court building; operates metal detectors; allows or denies access; and conducts daily security search of interior and exterior of premises. 
  • Monitors inmates in the detention facility; monitors video feeds and security cameras; controls movements of inmates throughout facility; grants/denies access; locks/unlocks doors via control room console; advises supervisor of any problems or emergencies; and maintains related documentation. 
  • Provides information and assistance via phone or in person; directs visitors to appropriate staff and/or building locations; explains policies and procedures; and answers questions. 
  • Maintains security equipment, such as panic alarms, metal detectors, security locks, radio equipment, etc.; conducts routine testing and calibration for equipment; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; and reports faulty equipment for necessary maintenance work.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; one year of experience in customer service, security or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
