	FUGITIVE SQUAD DEPUTIES ARREST SUSPECTS IN CHAMBLEE MURDER

Three suspects in a January 15, 2007, altercation outside a Chamblee restaurant that resulted in the murder of Thai Nguyen, 25, have been arrested. Nguyen, died of blunt force trauma the next day, after being removed from life support at Northside Hospital. DeKalb County Sheriff\'s Office (DKSO) Fugitive Squad deputies arrested one suspect, 23-year-old Tuan Thanh Phan of Doraville on January 29, 2007. Assisted by the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Squad, DeKalb deputies apprehended Phan at 230 Marble Springs Road, Norcross, GA, at the residence of one of his associates. Earlier on the same date (Jan. 29), DeKalb Sheriff’s Office investigators provided information regarding the location of a second suspect, 20-year-old Dy Thuc Dang Nguyen of Lilburn, to the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Fugitive Squad. Gwinnett deputies apprehended suspect Dy Nguyen at 1370 Sever Woods Drive in Lawrenceville, GA. The third suspect, Tu Van Huyhn,17, of Lawrenceville turned himself in on January 30, 2007. ### (Please see the attached synopsis if more information is needed regarding the initial incident.) INCIDENT: Homicide (ARREST WARRANTS TURNED OVER TO THE DEKALB COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE FUGITIVE SQUAD) Incident Location: 4646 Buford Highway, Linda’s Restaurant Incident Date: January 15, 2007 between the hours of 00:01 and 02:00 A. M. Victim: Thai Hong Nguyen, Vietnamese male, 25 years of age, a resident of Cobb County. Cause of Death: Blunt Force Trauma Defendants: 1. Tuan Thanh Phan 3645 Chestnut Drive, Doraville, GA. Date of Birth: 12-25-1983 (23 years of age) Vietnamese male Charged: One count of murder 2. Tu Van Huynh 3910 Bradstone Trace N.W., Lilburn, GA Date of Birth: 01-15-1990 (17 years of age) Vietnamese male Charged: One count of murder 3. Dy Thuc Dang Nguyen 1370 Sever Woods Dr. Lawrenceville, GA Date of Birth: 08-28-1986 (20 years of age) Vietnamese male Charged: One count of murder Synopsis: The victim and friends were at the location when the victim was called outside by another Vietnamese male. An altercation took place outside the establishment and several males began hitting and kicking the victim. The business owner went outside and broke up the assault. The victim was taken from the scene by friends, who took him to a friend’s residence in DeKalb County. The assailants left the scene as well. The Chamblee Police Department was not contacted and had no knowledge of the assault. A couple hours after the assault the friends noticed the victim was not breathing properly and called 911. DeKalb EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to Northside Hospital. The victim was admitted and placed on life support. The family ceased life support the next day (01/16) and the victim died that day. A witness to the assault provided information (MySpace.com) which provided photographs of several individuals. Interviews at the hospital revealed the first names of several individuals involved in the assault of the victim or who were at the location. Based on the information developed a photographic line up was shown to the witness who identified one subject. One subject’s photograph was identified by the Doraville Police. The information developed led to three individuals being charged with murder. The warrants were turned over to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and assigned to the fugitive squad. ###
