| DETENTION OFFICER ARRESTED |
|
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office arrested one of its own detention officers Friday, January 19, 2007, for allegedly supplying contraband to a jail inmate.
Detention Officer (DO) Raymond B. Green, a 28-year-old Stone Mountain resident who had held the position for one year, allegedly brought drugs and tobacco into the jail for use by an inmate. This violates Georgia Code §42-5-18(a), which is a felony offense punishable by imprisonment for one to five years if convicted. He also is charged with Violation of Oath by a Public Officer/Felony, or violation of Georgia Code §16-10-1.
“It’s a very sad day when we see our young men and women make faulty judgments that negatively impact them for life. I’m extremely disappointed, as Officer Green seemed to have a very promising future in law enforcement that is now lost if he is found guilty.
“We all, at some point in our lives, must face the consequences of our decisions and actions. My hope is that everyone will take note and learn from the mistakes of others,” Sheriff Thomas Brown said.
Green was hired as a detention officer in December 2005 and graduated from the DeKalb Sheriff’s Office Jail Academy in 2006 with top academic honors. Prior to becoming a POST-certified detention officer, he worked for three years as a laboratory/EKG technician and medical assistant on the staff of the jail’s former contracted medical provider.
Green was arrested and terminated from his DO position following a three-week investigation by the Sheriff’s Office of Professional Standards (OPS).
