SHERIFF WANTS DEADBEAT PARENTS TO PAY UP
Sixteen DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies took to the streets on December 20, 2006, in search of deadbeat parents, or parents who have failed to pay child support, leaving some custodial parents and their children in difficult situations and facing bleak circumstances during the holiday season.
“During this time of year the number of calls from custodial parents and guardians increases due to their frustration with parents who are not living up to their responsibility to pay child support,” Sheriff Brown said.
“Even though we enforce year round, with limited resources we have no choice but to prioritize warrant service, putting violent crimes such as murder, rape and aggravated assault at the top of the list. However, this is the second year that we have attempted to place special emphasis on child support enforcement during the holiday season.”
In preparation for the deadbeat parent roundup, a sheriff’s Office investigator researched 97 active Superior Court civil arrest orders for defendants whose child support arrearages total more than $1,313,146.00. The investigator worked in conjunction with the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Child Support Division and DHR Child Support Recovery Office to create updated information and possible locations for the offenders.
The deputies endeavored on 68 warrants in DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Rockdale, Newton, and Cobb counties. They arrested 11 offenders totaling $162,562.32.00 in delinquent payments. One defendant who owes $5,700 was already incarcerated in the prison system.

5)Donell Spivey, 3759 Salem Meadows Drive, Lithonia, owes $2,040.50
6)Tommy Bailey,80 Bailey Street, Stone Mountain, owes $11,009.73
7)Brain Mathis- 2795 Evan Mill Road, Lithonia, owes $6,429.00
8)Frank Burden – 809 Pine Ridge Bend,Stone Mountain, owes $978.00
9)Ron Stevens, 4832 Elam Road, Stone Mountain, owes $460.00
10)Victor Brown, 1546 Orlando Street, Atlanta, owes $9,427.15
11)Kenneth Bell, Sugarloaf Parkway, Gwinnett County, owes $97,025.00
12)Michael Thornton – Already incarcerated, owes $5,700.00
