CSB SALUTES SHERIFF FOR MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCACY

The DeKalb Community Service Board (CSB) recognized Sheriff Thomas E. Brown for his dedication and support of “public mental health, developmental disabilities and addictive diseases services in DeKalb County,” as stated in a resolution presented at the board of directors’ meeting on May 18, 2006. Sheriff Brown has worked with his Georgia Sheriff’s Association colleagues and the DeKalb community to foster awareness about the possible reduction of state funding for the CSB and the repercussions, board Chairperson Shelia Brown said. In addition to a letter campaign to chairpersons of the Georgia Senate and House Appropriations Committees, Brown sent editorials outlining his concern to local media. He received multiple print media placements and conducted an interview with Atlanta’s Fox5 television news creating awareness and understanding of the need for community services addressing mental health and addiction, the CSB board said in the resolution. ###
