SHERIFF MAKES 2nd CONTRABAND ARREST

SHERIFF MAKES 2nd ARREST IN ILLEGAL CONTRABAND OPERATION AT DEKALB JAIL DECATUR, Ga. – DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office deputies yesterday arrested Adriane Danette Collier Mitchell, 39, at Lakewood Apartments, 1991 Delowe Drive, Atlanta, GA, in connection with the case of a detention officer who was arrested November 3, 2005, for supplying contraband to jail inmates. Sheriff’s Office investigators discovered Mitchell’s involvement during the ongoing investigation of former Detention Officer Jimmy Lee Butler, Jr. (See news release below.) She faces charges of "VGCSA/Violation of Georgia Control Substance Act (felony), Use of Communication Facilities for Drug Transaction (felony), and giving intoxicants, drugs, and other items to inmates without consent of authority (felony). Sheriff’s Office investigators report that inmates would telephone Mitchell with their orders. Mitchell had an arrangement in which she procured items with money provided by inmates. She handed off the goods to Butler, who received a fee for delivery to inmates. Deputies seized contraband including a bottle of Remy Martin, marijuana, tobacco, food and toiletry items. The Sheriff’s Office of Professional Standards (OPS) continues to investigate the case, including the logistics of inmates getting the money to Mitchell. Mitchell’s interest in the DeKalb Jail stems from the fact that she has a son, Jorge Collier, currently lodged in the jail for murder and armed robbery. Collier will appear in Magistrate Court Thursday, November 10, 2005; the time has not been set. Butler was released from jail on $5,000 bond on November 4, 2005.
