Sheriff Thomas Brown and this agency’s employees invite you to take a guided video tour of operations. Or, navigate through our pages to discover a wealth of information that we hope you will find useful. The Georgia constitution mandates that each county has a sheriff. Legislation designates the sheriff, who has statewide arrest powers, as the chief law enforcement officer in the county.
In DeKalb and many other urban counties, the sheriff manages the jail, is responsible for security of the courts; serves writs, processes, and other court orders; and executes warrants for the arrest of criminal law violators. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s office is recognized for its high profile Fugitive Squad, which seeks out and arrests the most dangerous fugitives from DeKalb County and from across Georgia and the nation.
